Why Use a Brain When You Can Hire a Lifeless AI Secretary

I bought the Plaud Note Pro AI Voice Recorder and immediately realized I may never need to fully pay attention in a meeting again. This thing listens, remembers everything, and turns it into clean, readable notes like it actually cares. You hit record, people talk, and later you receive notes that make it look like you were alert, engaged, and possibly born with super human memory. I have read summaries and thought, “Wow, I sound impressive.” I do not remember saying any of this.It captures details I absolutely missed. Action items, decisions, and important points are neatly organized by AI that does not get bored, distracted, or slowly lose the will to live during meetings. You could probably sleep lightly and still walk out looking like the smartest person in the room. Not recommending it. Just acknowledging the power. Now, yes, it does require a subscription for the AI features. But let’s be realistic. If you were paying an actual person that amount to sit in every meeting, transcribe everything perfectly, summarize it instantly, and never complain, you would absolutely be arrested. So this feels fair. The device itself is clean, simple, and easy to use. No drama. Just press record and let your new emotionless assistant do the work.Pros:Extremely accurate notes and summariesMakes you look organized and frighteningly competentNever forgets anythingCons:Requires a subscriptionWill expose how little you were actually listeningBottom line: This is basically hiring a tireless, lifeless secretary that works nonstop and never asks for a raise. If you attend meetings and value your sanity, this thing is worth it. Five stars.

Plaud Note Pro AI Voice Recorder

I’ve had a very positive experience with the Plaud Note Pro. It captures conversations during meetings in a discreet and highly effective way, even when placed at some distance from the speakers. The recording quality and overall reliability have been excellent so far.I’m still experimenting with the output templates and summary formats, but everything has worked smoothly and consistently, with a very straightforward workflow. One of the biggest advantages is being able to use my smartphone normally while the Plaud handles the recording. This has noticeably improved my phone’s battery management, and it also reduces the need to store large audio files on my phone’s internal memory. In practice, it solves two common issues when recording meetings on a phone: battery drain and storage consumption.Overall, it’s a very useful device for anyone who attends frequent meetings and wants an easy, dependable way to capture conversations without relying entirely on their smartphone.

Great product that overcame by skepticism…

I’ve used a bunch of AI products with varying results, so I was skeptical about another AI product. I bought this at the end of 2025 when there was the usual lull in work and meetings, so I didn’t really get a chance to use it until everyone recovered from the holiday hangover.First, it’s solidly built – both the device and the magnetic holder. It’s not real leather but I don’t really care. It’s a tight fit so I don’t think you’ll need to pull it out often. Fortunately, there’s an opening on the backside for the charging contacts. If you’re buying an aftermarket case, check for the opening for the charging contacts.Second, you get 300 minutes of recording and summarizing each month with the FREE Starter Plan. Unused time doesn’t roll over to the next month; you just start over with 300 minutes each month. You can upgrade to more minutes and features. The 300 minutes is nice so you can test it out and see if both the device and the plan meets your needs.Third, it’s pretty easy to use. Click the button for battery life. Long press to start and stop. Click during recording to let the AI know that this is an important point in the meeting. When you’re done, the recording is then transferred to your phone via BT. You have the option of getting a transcription, summaries, meeting notes, action items, and others.Fourth, they recently launched a companion desktop version where you can see the same recording. The desktop version works off the same plan. It allows you to record meetings on your computer whether it’s Teams, WebEx, Zoom, etc. It doesn’t plug into those apps but runs separately so the other attendees won’t know you’re using Plaud so use it appropriately.Lastly and most importantly, it seems to record the meetings well and does a great job summarizing the meeting with the free templates. A huge selling point is that it handles the note taking so I can pay attention or run the meeting and afterward, provides me with great notes and summaries. It will match the speaker and name, if known, to the notes. And if I need to confirm anything, I have the recording and AI-created transcripts. Is it worth it? For $185 and the basic plan, I’d say yes because I can pay attention to the meeting and saves me the time and hassle of taking notes and then summarizing them.

5 stars for one use case – 3 stars for another

Really this is a 5-star review, but there is a lot of low-hanging fruit with Plaud that would make this device even more useful.TL;DRIf you want to use the Plaud for meetings and/or lectures, my recommendation would be pretty conditional. There are three big drawbacks, listed below, regarding ongoing costs, recording quality and ethics. However, for my particular use case – very many personal short notes for the keeping of a running journal – it’s really great.NTL;RTHE 3-STAR REVIEWMany of the reviews are about three things:1. The cost and inconvenience of “buying minutes”, especially after the relatively steep price of the hardware. The minutes are only deducted if the AI transcribes it, and sending a meeting to be transcribed is manual by default, but the whole minute-purchasing model feels liked we’re being nickel-and-dimed.2. The success or failure at capturing meetings in larger rooms with multiple speakers. This is a difficult technical challenge, and Plaud is pretty good but not great at it.3. Ethical and legal questions around recording people. In the cases of meetings and lectures, it is not always practical to inform everyone who’s in range of the mic that they might be recorded – a board meeting of 20 people for example, or a lecture of 30 students – so the gray area will remain. All of these issues strongly suggest this: As a device used to record long meetings or lectures eating up expensive minutes, and that take place in large noisy rooms or halls, among people who may not know they are being recorded, perhaps the Plaud is not the right tool.HOWEVER… this is not at all how I am using it, for those reasons, as well as my own.THE 5-STAR REVIEWI use the Plaud almost exclusively as a personal journal/note taker. 95% of my Plaud recordings are done by myself alone; driving, on a walk, on the treadmill, etc. They average about 1-2 minutes per note. I keep a running journal of daily thoughts and concerns, what movie I saw, how that back pain is feeling, I heard from Bill last night, etc. as well as project ideas, updates and next plans for projects in progress, whatever comes to mind really. For this particular use case, the Plaud is excellent. It is ideally suited to the recording of many short notes, recorded solo, and at close range. Using some of the very useful (but horrifically under-documented) more advanced features, I have managed to build a pretty robust storage system for all my random little notes I want to remember. The lack of documentation and training on those useful features is another problem. However, after a month of using it constantly, I have come to more and more rely on its “Ask Plaud” chatbot-like feature to just query it about my notes. It took me a while to realize that everything I record and transcribe with Plaud is building an ever-growing corpus of personal data that its AI is drawing from. For example, I have been storing notes I deem to be “project ideas” in a folder called Project Ideas, so that I can refer to them as a group later. And that’s been fine, but I now realize that I can just ask Plaud “Show me all my project ideas” and that’s as good or better than my habit of storing things in like folders for later systematic perusal. And someday I’ll be able to ask it “When did I start to notice that my knee was hurting? Was it before or after I got those expensive shoes?” even though maybe it was five years ago. It’s a potentially powerful device when looked at that way.

Plaud is the cure for my ADD!

For someone who has scatterbrain through 90% of the day, the Plaud note is a savior. I’m able to record phone calls and conversations and easily reference the app for a quick summary and key highlights from the conversation.I would remind anyone purchasing this device to gain permission from the other party before recording anything. I have had no issues gaining consent, especially when I explain what the device is and what it does for me. If anything I end up being a sales rep for Plaud. There are a couple tips and tricks within the app that I would encourage users to read and try out. These can help ensure you’re getting the highest quality recordings and best functionality of the device.I would highly recommend this to anyone who lives a busy life and needs a device to help retain information. The AI built into Plaud has been outstanding so far. Not only does it analyze recordings and generate text summaries, it lets you ask questions in which the AI will reference the record recording or search the web for answers.I use this for everything from work meetings and phone calls to quickly noting a shopping list. This is way more useful than I expected it to be and there’s no buyers remorse here!
